Disney continues its slow march towards owning all video entertainment after the company negotiated an agreement with Paramount Pictures for distribution and marketing of all current and future Indiana Jones films.
Originally it was reported that the Walt Disney Company had just the rights for the future films, but an update from The Hollywood Reporter shows just how much Disney has come away with.
Paramount has not completely lost control of the franchise though, with the statement from both studios noting that the movie studio "will receive a financial participation on any future films that are produced and released."
Paramount previously distributed the first four films, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
Despite acquiring the rights to the popular franchise, Disney has not yet announced plans or development of a fifth film, Reuters reports. Disney also owns the company that produced the films, Lucasfilm.
THR notes that Disney paid $4.06 billion, through cash and shares, to acquire Lucasfilm and wasted little time in announcing a continuation of the Star Wars franchise, with Star Wars: Episode VII currently in the early stages of production and set for a Dec. 18, 2015 release.
