Four people were killed by a gas explosion at a shopping mall in the City of Luzhou in China’s Sichuan province.
According to the Associated Press, it was a natural gas explosion that killed four people and injured 35 others at the Moerma shopping center. Of those wounded, six were reportedly in serious condition.
The Daily Mail reported that after an explosion, a fire started at 10:40 p.m. Thursday and spread to the ground and second floors of the shopping mall.
Images of the aftermath show broken glass, debris and areas of the mall and its stores reduced to rubble.
Local news outlets have said that a gas leak was reported and all of the approximately 200 people inside the mall had to be evacuated.
Firefighters worked into the night and had the blaze under control by 2:40 a.m. Friday. Authorities say the exact cause of explosion is under investigation and that a search and rescue operation is still underway.
