A few days after releasing a teaser that revealed no footage from the film itself, Warner Bros. released the first full trailer for Transcendence, the first film directed by Oscar winning cinematographer Wally Pfister. The sci-fi film stars Johnny Depp, Rebecca Hall and Morgan Freeman.

The minute-long teaser released earlier this week introduced the film’s central concept - that artificial intelligence may one day exceed that of humans. A group of scientists, lead by Depp, are hoping to reach that phenomenon, called Technical Singularity. But there is an opposition group against them and the group shoots Depp, as revealed in the new trailer. At that point, Hall, playing his wife, decides to try and upload Depp’s brain into a computer to keep him alive.

Kate Mara, who stars on Netflix’s House of Cards, also appears in the trailer, but it’s not exactly clear how she fits in. Meanwhile, Depp’s colleagues struggle to remind Hall that her husband is dead, but she’s not convinced.

Transcendence hits theaters on April 18. Pfister frequently works with Christopher Nolan and won an Oscar for 2009’s Inception.
