A shooting spree that spanned over two Louisiana counties and took the lives of three people Thursday night has come to an end after the gunman shot himself.
According to the New York Daily News, Ben Freeman, 38, allegedly killed his wife, former mother-in-law and a hospital CEO before turning the gun on himself.
Authorities said Freeman started his deadly rampage in Lockport, where he shot Councilman Louis Phillip Gouaux and his wife, Susan in their home. The couple’s daughter, Andrea was also injured in the shooting.
The Councilman and his daughter were taken to University Hospital and listed in critical, but stable condition. Gouaux’s wife, however, died before paramedics arrived.
The Associated Press has reported that Freeman was involved in a custody battle with his former wife and Councilman Gouaux’s daughter Jeanne.
Later, in Raceland County, Freeman allegedly shot Milton Bourgeois, who was the head of Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital, where Freeman once worked. Bourgeois’ wife, Ann was wounded in the attack, but survived.
Police identified Freeman as the shooter and went to his home. Inside they found his wife, Denise Freeman dead in a bathtub. Freeman was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in a car parked nearby.
