Harvard University ordered an evacuation this morning after reports of a bomb, sent in an email. However, authorities later determined that there were no explosives.
According to Boston.com, the warning claimed that there were bombs in four places on the Cambridge, Mass. campus. By 10:40 a.m. though, authorities found no bombs but were still searching the campus. There five different agencies on campus using bomb-sniffing dogs.
In an emergency alert on its website, the university said that the “the Harvard University Police Department (HUPD) received an unconfirmed report that explosives may have been placed in four buildings on campus: the Science Center, and Thayer, Sever and Emerson halls.”
Those buildings were all evacuated while the Cambridge police and HUPD investigated the warnings.
CNN reports that the Cambridge police opened the roads around Harvard Square by 11 a.m. Harvard Crimson incoming president Sam Weinstock said that some students were taking final exams at the time the evacuation was ordered.
Law enforcement sources told CNN that they do believe it was a hoax.
