Hulu is now a $1 billion company. CEO of Hulu Mike Hopkins announced that the company will cross the $1 billion mark in revenue before the end of 2013. Hulu launched as a company back in 2008.
Time reported that this marks a 43 percent increase in subscription and ad-funded streaming video for the company.
Hulu announced that it's revenue will be up from $695 million from last year, reported The LA Times.
Over 5 million users are currently subscribed to the instant stream service and Hulu Plus can be viewed on over 400 million Internet-connected devices in the United States alone. It was also announced that fifty percent of subscribers watch the service on a non-PC device.
2013 marked a year that Hulu released 20 original shows for users to view. A few of the shows gained a lot of popularity amongst fans including, The Awesomes and Behind the Mask. The service also made major deals in 2013, including a deal with BBC Worldwide North America, which allowed shows like Doctor Who, Sherlock and Top Gear to Hulu.
