Director, James Cameron has announced the location for the upcoming Avatar sequels. Filming will be taking place New Zealand for the next three films which will be shot back to back.

Variety reported that Cameron made the announcement at a conference in Willington, N.Z., supporting Cameron in the announcement was prime minister to New Zealand John Key.

The three films will spend around $412 million in production. In return for Cameron's business, New Zealand has increase their film tax credits to 25%, this was raised from 15%.

The first Avatar filmed was partially shot in New Zealand. Avatar became the highest-grossing movie with $2.78 billion dollars at the global box office.

The upcoming Avatar sequels will be released in 2016, 2017 and 2018, all coming to theaters in the month of December.

Cinema Blend added that Cameron is not the first director to film multiple movies with New Zealand as the backdrop. The Hobbit trilogy and Lord of the Rings was filmed in New Zealand with Peter Jackson at the helm.
