Jerry Bruckheimer is bringing his filmmaking talents back to Paramount, the studio that he made his early hits with. The legendary producer left Disney in September and it was reported earlier this week that he would likely return to Paramount.
Paramount Pictures Chairman and CEO Brad Grey and Jerry Bruckheimer made the announcement in a joint statement, posted at Deadline. As part of the three-year, first-look pact, Bruckheimer’s first order of business will be a new Beverly Hills Cop movie for Eddie Murphy and written by André Nemec (Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).
The announcement also confirmed that Top Gun 2 is still in the works and will be produced with Skydance Productions. Tom Cruise is expected to return. Bruckheimer produced both the original Top Gun and Beverly Hills Cop for Paramount.
“Jerry Bruckheimer is one of the most creative and prolific producers in motion picture history,” Grey said. “His signature style has attracted huge global audiences and we are thrilled to have him back in the Paramount family.”
Bruckheimer added, “It is great to be back at Paramount. I look forward to working with Brad Grey and his entire team.”
Earlier this week, TheWrap reported that Paramount was very close to signing Bruckheimer. Although his television production is based at Warner Bros., the studio was not able to bring him in to work on films.
Bruckheimer is one of the most well known producers in the business and oversaw hits like Pirates of the Caribbean and Armageddon at Disney for two decades. He left the studio in September after a series of flops, including this year’s The Lone Ranger. He is still working on a fifth Pirates film for the studio, though.
