Joseph Gordon-Levitt is reportedly in final negotiations with Warner Bro. to produce an adaptation of Neil Gaiman's Sandman with David Goyer.
As part of the deal, the Don Jon star would also join the project as the main character, should it go through, reports Deadline, who first reported on the story. It's also possible that he steps in as director as well, which would make this only his second directorial effort.
Sandman follows Morpheus who has been held prisoner for 70 years, but he is able to escape and looks to both rebuild his kingdom and get revenge.
As previously reported in November, there have long been rumors, that now seem all but true, of the movie being in development, and sources had said that it appeared that Warner Bros. was finally getting the project in gear.
Gaiman had talked back in November with MTV, about an adaptation and he had mentioned how it has long been gestating, since it was first brought up in the 1990s, but studio heads back then hadn't really understood what they were getting into by adapting graphic novels.
He added that the junior execs who bugged him for a signature were now often the current heads and would be more keen on getting a Sandman movie made.
