It seems Justin Bieber was just having some fun with the media when he tweeted out Christmas day that he was “officially retiring.” Just a few days later though, he seemed to backtrack and now a friend is coming forward to confirm it was just a joke.

Bieber put fans in a state of panic when he tweeted ahead of the release of his Believe film, “My beloved beliebers I'm officially retiring.”

However, he did follow that up with, "The media talks a lot about me. They make a up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I'm never leaving you, being a belieber is a lifestyle."

"He isn't retiring, clearly," a source close to Bieber told Us Weekly. "It was a joke and he explained in two tweets afterwards! He is basically poking fun of how quickly news spreads without anyone vetting if it is true or not."

This is the second time in a short time span that Bieber has cried wolf. He said in a radio interview with Power 106 that he would be retiring, but his manager Scooter Braun quickly confirmed it was a joke.

Bieber’s film, his second documentary film, Believe hit theaters on Christmas day.
