French artist Laure Prouvost won the 2013 Turner Prize, along with nearly $41,000 (£25,000), for her installation piece.
The Irish Times reports that actress Saoirse Ronan presented the award to Prouvost.
The installation Prouvost won for is called "Wantee" and depicts art created by her fictional grandfather being used by his wife to do household chores. The installation starts with the question "Would you like some tea?" The piece represents an artist who wishes their work would appear in galleries losing control of their work and it being used for unglamorous things.
Tino Sehgal, David Shrigley and Lynette Yiadom-Boakye were also in the running for the 2013 Turner Prize.
"I'm not ready, I didn't expect it at all," she said while accepting the award, notes BBC News. "Four incredible artists here with me and the show. I thought it can't be me, I was sure it was not me. So Thank you everybody."
Prouvost added, "Thank you for adopting me, thank you for having a French one here. I've been here so many years and I feel adopted totally now by the UK, thank you."
Judges called "Wantee" "unexpectedly moving" and "outstanding for its complex and courageous combination of images and objects in a deeply atmospheric environment."
