Hot off the heels of her four Grammy nominations, “Royals” singer Lorde released a surprise new single today titled “No Better”.
The young New Zealander picks up right where she left off with her debut Pure Heroine, giving us a mature sound with even more mature lyrics. The hip-hop-ish beat drives the song with heavy synths and EDM pulsating throughout. The singer moves through the verses at a rapid, rap-like pace while her ethereal vocals fuel the chorus.
Lyrically it’s pretty genius; Lorde is able to give us the same hand-over-mouth shock that we got from twerking without having to lift a finger. Lyrics And you’re no better at swimming then you were in the beginning/ but you come over at night and we practice all the breathing leaves us wondering what at the age of 17 does Lorde do with her down time.
Even though the singer was wrongfully snubbed for a Best New Artist Grammy nomination, Lorde’s “Royals”, which she performed at the Grammy nomination concert, is still up for Song of the Year and Record of the Year. The singer-songwriter recently opened up to Billboard while in Australia that she is working on new material and is hopeful to get in the studio by early next year.
