New Zealand singer Lorde is ready to make sure that “Royals” isn’t the only hit off of her first album, Pure Heroine. The video for the album’s next single, “Team,” was just released and it’s much more elaborate than her videos for “Royals” and “Tennis Court.”
The video appears to take place in a society without any adults, with the 17-year-old Lorde as an underwater leader. There’s even motorcycle jousting and a long-haired protagonist who gets delivered to Lorde.
Lorde posted a message on Facebook to accompany the release of the video. She said the idea for it came out of a dream she had. “I dreamt about this world being so different to anything anyone had ever seen, a dark world full of tropical plants and ruins and sweat. and of this world, I dreamt about tests that didn't need to be passed in order to be allowed in: sometimes the person who loses is stronger,” she wrote, adding, “enjoy xx.”
According to Billboard, “Team” has peaked at No. 69 on the Hot 100 chart, while “Royals” continues to stay at the top of the chart for a ninth week. Pure Heroine has also sold 413,000 copies just since September and she’s secured a huge $2.5 million deal with Sony Music Publishing.
