Metallica, one of the world’s best metal bands in history, has reached a feat no band has done before. Following Metallica’s recent stop on Antarctica this past weekend, the band has become the first to play a show on all seven continents.
The most remote gig to date, Metallica played their “Freeze ‘Em All” show at the heliport of Argentine Antarctic Base Carlini. The band played an hour-long set to a crowd of 120 people. A very small crowd for such a very large feat. It all seems just another step in Metallica’s efforts to take over the world.
To respect the international Antarctic protocol, no amplification was able to be used. Instead the sound was transmitted through headphones of the crowd, similar to a “silent disco”. Through and through, the show was deemed a success.
The band itself shared photos of the show through their Facebook page. On the concert, the band wrote, “This was the most unique show Metallica has ever done. The band, contest winners, research station scientists (from Russia, South Korea, China, Poland, Chile, Brazil and Germany), and the ship crew, all crammed in this little dome out on the helipad of Carlini Station in ANTARCTICA! The energy in the little dome was amazing! Words can not describe how happy everyone was.” They go on to say, “The band cranked out 10 songs for the small crowd including Creeping Death, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Sad But True, Welcome Home (Sanitarium), Master of Puppets, One, Blackened, Nothing Else Matters, Enter Sandman, and Seek & Destroy. No word on if there were any penguins were attendance. #FreezeEmAll” Undoubtedly the band was excited for the show, but it also reflects how big of a deal this actually was, an impressive feat to say the least. Now who knows what to expect from Metallica next.
