Miley Cyrus may have not been nominated for a single Grammy, but the people at MTV still believe that the “We Can’t Stop” singer is the Best Artist of 2013.
MTV announced today that its Music and News teams picked the former Disney star as the year’s top artist, beating Justin Timberlake, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Katy Perry, One Direction and other top-selling artists. The network picked its top 10 based on sales, live shows, pop culture and social impact, plus their ability to stay in the news throughout the year. That’s definitely a trait Cyrus had all year.
Cyrus’ year was filled with key moments, from the release of the “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” videos to her now-famous Video Music Awards performance with Robin Thicke. She also performed on Saturday Night Live and the album Bangerz debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart.
The network said that new lists will be released throughout the week, with their Top 10 best movies list our on Wednesday. The best songs list is out on Thursday and the movie characters list will be out on Friday. Each list is posted on BestOf.MTV.com.
The 10 best artists of 2013, according to MTV are Cyrus; Macklemore & Ryan Lewis; Justin Timberlake; Kanye West; One Direction; Katy Perry; Drake; Bruno Mars; Lorde; and Lady Gaga.
