A Missouri mother has learned the harsh lessons of using social media without taking a moment to think about the consequences of her actions. She posed topless with her 14-year-old daughter in a hot tub and the photo was posted on SnapChat and then circulated around local high schools. The 50-year-old woman, whose name hasn’t been published, was arrested.
Although SnapChat photos are supposed to be deleted within seconds of a person viewing them, the mother’s photo still managed to circulate in two high schools, reports the St. Louis Dispatch. St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar said that the mother didn’t have any idea how her son’s classmates managed to get a hold of the picture. Authorities said that the classmates used the photo to make fun of her son.
In the photo, it is clear that both the mother and daughter knew that they were taking the photo, Lohmar said. Although their hands were covering their nipples, the breasts were exposed and both were easily identifiable.
According to The Smoking Gun, a Wentzville Police Department investigator told the site that the girl was receiving court ordered counseling due to taking “photographs of herself nude and circulating it around her high school.”
Although Lohmar said that it looked like they were posing, the mother spoke with KMOV and denied that allegation. “I wasn’t posing I was getting out of the tub,” she said, adding that her daughter took the photo and she asked her to delete it right away.
The mother was officially charged with misdemeanor child endangerment and could be sentenced to a year in jail if convicted.
