Moons of Mars might have named their debut EP Loser, but they are so far from being ones in every single sense. Brothers Giovan and Mario Polanco are drawing crowds to their concerts in Los Angeles area, but they surely have a potential and talent to fill big arenas and halls around the world.
Loser features four highly addictive and fresh indie pop tracks, starting with:
Loser
A title-track that opens with distinct drums, which are then accompanied by ambient, hovering guitars and dreamy, soft vocals. “I'm a loser, rooting for the loser,” Polanco brothers sing. Instrumentally, vocally and lyrically, the song oozes with melancholy and hopelessness, but in such a captivating way.
I Want You Here
Is a nostalgic track that opens with a rattle and then is accompanied by guitars that vary from clear to hovering, accompanied by gentle vocals that get more breathy and higher in the chorus. “You mean so much to me/You mean so much to me/Why do you try so hard to run away?”
Seeing Is Believing
Opens with “They say that seeing is believing and all you need is healing to restore your sight/But what good is a savior if you feel alright/Do you feel alright?” It is a more upbeat and more drums-dominated track with faint guitars and a different attitude, asking the listener “what good is a warning if you’ve never tried?”
Disappear
Ends Loser in a lighthearted way. It is dominated by the dreamy and resonating vocals that are accompanied by lingering and hovering guitars. It is simple, yet absolutely stunning. “Falling from the skies white stars/Falling from your eyes are tears/All he really wants is your heart, to let go of your worries and fears/Yeah, you're beautiful…”
Overall, Loser is original, captivating and haunting. It is a rare bird in the musical flock. Highly recommended!
