A Saudi prince has been convicted of murdering a local Saudi man and could be beheaded, said Emirates 24/7 News. The prince and the victim are unnamed in the press. Crown Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud said, “The Sharia (Islamic law) must be enforced on all without any exception because there is no difference between the strong and the weak in Islam.”
However, according to Islamic law, anyone accused of murder can be pardoned if the victim’s family receives the blood money, known as diya, offered by the killer or the killer’s family. As of now, the victim’s father has not agreed to receive the blood money and is dissatisfied with the amount, said Reuters.
According to Reuters, the royal family has been known for internal turmoil. The House of Saud numbers to thousands of members, yet the only ones with power number to roughly 2,000. In 1975, Faisal bin Musaid al Saud was executed for assassinating his uncle, King Faisal. This was the only other known execution within the House of Saud.
