Michigan's Lake Superior State University has issued their 39th annual List of Words to be Banished from the Queen's English for Misuse, Overuse and General Uselessness and unsurprisingly, “twerk” and “selfie” are at the top.

Selfie got the most votes in 2013 for its uselessness, despite Oxford Dictionaries naming it their word of the year.

Twerk or twerking was next on the list, with hashtag, Twittersphere, Mister Mom, T-Bone and on steroids following behind.
This list is released every year on New Year’s Eve and it’s made up of nominations sent in throughout the duration of the year. According to NPR, past words to make the list have been “viral” in 2011, "Been there, done that” in 1996 and “At this point in time” in 1976.

LSSU stated, “Editors of the list consider pet peeves from everyday speech, as well as from the news, fields of education, technology, advertising, politics and more.”
