Target is doing its best to figure out how to keep from losing customers over the recent credit card information breach and has landed on offering 10 percent off this Saturday and Sunday as well as free credit monitoring.
Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel released a statement on Friday where he did his best to try and soothe angry shoppers, CNN reports. "We recognize this has been confusing and disruptive during an already busy holiday season. Our guests' trust is our top priority at Target and we are committed to making this right."
On top of the weekend apology discount, Target will also "be offering free credit monitoring services."
The retailer announced that hackers do not likely have customers' birth dates or social security numbers and that the major credit card companies have been given the numbers of cards affected and they are being monitored for fraud alerts.
In the statement, the Target CEO admitted that call volume from furious customers was "unprecedented" after the news broke and they were "working continuously to build capacity," notes the Los Angeles Times.
He noted that though 40 million customer credit accounts were compromised, there have yet to be all that many reports of "actual fraud." Steinhafel made sure to add that no one needed to worry they about their money if a customer is found to be a victim.
