Warner Bros. has released a teaser for Transcendence, a new science fiction film starring Johnny Depp. The one-minute video features no footage from the film, but it certainly is a nice teaser to drive interest in the project.
Transcendence is the first film directed by famed cinematographer Wally Pfister, who is best known for his Oscar-winning work on Christopher Nolan’s Inception.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the film centers on scientists looking to reach Technological Singularity, where artificial intelligence finally surpases human intelligence. However, they have to deal with a company that is looking to stop them. Depp’s character is actually uploaded into a computer, a scene shown in stills the magazine posted earlier this month.
Warner Bros.’ teaser only features computer graphics with 0’s and 1’s, but they eventually turn into Depp’s face as he explains singularity in a voiceover.
His co-stars include Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, Kate Mara and Cillian Murphy. The movie opens on April 18, so we should be seeing a longer trailer soon.
