The two men that murdered an off-duty British soldier were found guilty. Michael Adebolajo, 29, and Michael Adebowale, 22, murdered Lee Rigby in a senseless act of terrorism on a busy London street.
Both men were found guilty after the jury reviewed the charges. Sentencing will take place at a leter date, according to the Sydney Morning Herald but both men face up to life in prison.
Adebolajo and Adebowale, who recently converted to Islam, ran over Rigby before leaving their car and nearly decapitating the soldier with knives and cleavers. "The sickening and barbaric murder of Drummer Lee Rigby united the entire nation in condemnation," said U.K. Home Secretary Theresa May. "We must not forget that this appalling and public act of violence and terror also robbed his family and loved ones of a brave, young man with his life ahead of him."
The attack happened just after 2 p.m. on May 22 outside of a military barracks in southeast London. Adebolajo, who now wants to be referred to as Mujaahid Abu Hamza, and Adebowale, who changed his name to Ismail Ibn Abdullah, were both shot and wounded at scene. Police arrested both men after disarming them.
Adebolajo considers himself part of the terror group al-Qaeda and calls the attack on Rigby a command of Allah according to CNN.
Rigby was a drummer in the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers and father to a two-year-old son.
