Universal Pictures beat out other movie studios in a bidding war for the film rights for the upcoming book Unicorn Executions and Other Crap My Kids Make Me Draw by Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Steve Breen.

The Hollywood Reporter, who first reported the news, notes that sources said several other movie studios were interested in Breen's book of illustrations.

Creative executive Sara Scott and senior vp of production Erik Baiers are in charge of developing the project for Universal.

We're the Millers director Rawson Thurber has been attached to the Universal film, Deadline reports. Simon Rich, who wrote for Saturday Night Live is on board to write the script and Bluegrass Film's Scott Stuber will produce.

THR notes that Breen's book is filled with various drawings he did over the years for his kids, such bizarre illustrations as Disney princesses that are 40 years old and "Betty White punching out a silverback gorilla."

Unicorn Executions, which does not contain any sort of story and is merely a collection of illustrations, will be published in May 2014.
