Book of Mormon actor Josh Gad has signed on to star in Warner Bros. Gilligan's Island film based on the 1960s TV show.
In addition to starring, Gad, along with Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit will be writing the script, according to Deadline who was the first to report the news. There hasn't been word on what character Gad will play yet.
Ross Schwartz, Lloyd Schwartz, Tracey Silvers and Cathy Silvers are on board to executive produce the movie.
Variety reports there isn't a producer signed on yet as Atlas Entertainment's Chuck Roven and Richard Suckle were involved back in 2012, but are no longer a part of the film.
Gilligan's Island ran for three seasons from 1964 to 1967 and followed a charter boat that crashes on an unknown Pacific island and as the show was not renewed for a fourth season, they never got off. The show starred Bob Denver, Alan Hale Jr., Dawn Wells, Tina Louise, Jim Backus, Natalie Schafer and Russell Johnson.
Deadline reports that Gad is also being looked at for the lead role in the biopic Kinison to play the title character Sam Kinison.
