Anna Paquin has been cut from the upcoming X-Men film, according to director Brian Singer. He confirmed that the True Blood star’s part of Rogue has been cut from X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Singer, who is still finalizing edits before the film’s May 23, 2014 release, told Paquin before he confirmed it to the media.

“Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous,” explains Singer. “It’s a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in. Even though she’s in the materials and part of the process of making the film, she won’t appear in it.”

Singer said Paquin “completely understood,” calling her “very professional.” The director also said she “knows that stuff happens, particularly with material you shoot early on in production. Films evolve.”

According to E! Online, Days of Future Past features the cast of the originalX-Men trilogy and First Class (2011). Paquin played Marie, as well as her alter ego Rogue.

Singer also called Paquin, 31, a “brilliant actress” noting “I would work with her in a heartbeat."
