Microsoft’s Xbox One has sold over 2 million consoles since its release on November 22nd, exactly a week after Sony released the Playstation 4.
The company has averaged sales of 111,111 units sold per day which Microsoft called a "record-setting pace for Xbox.” Over 1 million systems were sold on the launch date alone according to GameSpot. Users of Xbox have spent over 83 million hours in TV, games and apps since the launch date and have been responsible for over 1 million paid transactions via Xbox Live.
"We continue to be humbled and overwhelmed by the positive response from our fans," says Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of strategy and marketing for Xbox, according to USA Today. "We are thrilled to see sales of Xbox One on a record-setting pace."
Xbox’s announcement follows a similar broadcast from Sony, who last week revealed PS4 sales topped 2.1 million. The PS4 launched a week before Xbox on November 15th and the two have been in a sales war ever since the consoles were introduced.
Both consoles are expected to sell 3 million each by the end of the year.
