Zach Braff has completed Wish I Was Here, the film funded thanks to help from fans on Kickstarter, and the movie will premiere at the Sundance International Film Festival in Park City, Utah next month. Kevin Smith has also signed on to make an appearance to mark the 20th anniversary of Clerks.
Although Braff, who starred in the successful TV series Scrubs, was at first criticized for asking fans for their money, it took only four days after he announced it for it to reach its $2 million goal. He ended up raising $3.1 million in a month.
Braff cast several stars for the film, including Homeland’s Mandy Patinkin, Josh Gad, Jim Parsons, Kate Hudson, Ashley Greene and Scrubs’ Donald Faison.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Wish I Was Here will be a part of Sundance’s Premieres category and will not be part of the main competition.
Meanwhile, Smith will be on hand for Sundance’s special “Collections” section, which this year will mark the 20th anniversary of several key films from 1994. According to Deadline, the filmmakers behind Hoop Dreams have already signed on to appear for a new screening.
Clerks and smith’s Q&A are scheduled for Jan. 24, while Hoop Dreams will be screened on Jan. 20.
This year’s Sundance International Film Festival runs from Jan. 16 to Jan. 26.
