David and Nathan Zellner showed their new film, Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter at the Sundance Film Festival this year.

The movie stars Rinko Kikuchi and Nobuyuki Katsube. It is a road movie about Kumiko, an unhappy Japanese woman who becomes obsessed with the movie, Fargo. She goes to the United States to look for the treasure mentioned in Fargo. David and Nathan Zellner are the writers and directors on this project. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kumiko navigates through the dense city of Tokyo to the snow-covered plains of Minnesota.

According to Variety, Kimiko, the Treasure Hunter boasted the Zellner’s biggest budget to date. Their previous films include Goliath and Kid-Thing. Kimiko, the Treasure Hunter was featured in the competition category this year at the Sundance Film Festival. It did not win this year in that category, but the movie received accolades for its score by The Octopus Project.

Lead actress Rinko Kikuchi is originally from Japan. She has been seen previously in the films, Babel and Pacific Rim. Fans also recognize her from the television shows, Moteki and Liar Game.
