For fans of the beloved cult 1960s Batman series, the only way to catch full episodes since they originally aired has been catching episodes through syndication or watching them in low quality on YouTube. Now, the show, which starred Adam West as Batman and defined the character for a generation, is finally reaching official home video.
The news was confirmed thanks to a surprising source: comedian Conan O’Brien. On Wednesday, the Conan host tweeted an image of himself standing in the famous Batmobile from the show. “Very excited @WBHomeEnt is releasing the Batman '66 Complete TV Series in 2014! The seat smells like Adam West,” he wrote, offering no other details.
However, Home Media Magazine was told by a Warner Home Video rep that the series will in fact hit DVD in 2014.

The reason why the cult Batman show wasn’t released on home video is because of studio rights issues. Since the show was made before DC Comics was a Warner Bros. entity, it was actually made by Fox, which has already released the 1966 movie on Blu-ray and DVD.
It was widely rumored last year that Warner Bros. must have struck some kind of deal with Fox, because suddenly companies that licence DC characters began producing products based on the show.
