Just hours after riders were stranded on a NJ Transit train headed to Manhattan Tuesday night, morning commuters got stuck aboard another disabled train.
According to WABC, hundreds of passengers had to be rescued off the commuter line Wednesday morning after the train lost power.
NJ Transit spokeswoman Nancy Snyder said the Midtown Direct train was carrying 800 passengers when it lost power at 6:12 a.m.
The train was towed to Hoboken, N.J. just over an hour later and commuters were able to connect to another train to get them to New York City.
At around 11:00 p.m. the previous night, a train lost power in a tunnel under the Hudson River and left 27 passengers stranded till 2:20 a.m., the Associated Press reported.
Heat and emergency lights on that train were kept on by a backup battery. The train that got stuck on Wednesday morning did not have heat.
The commuter rail transports thousands of people on a daily basis and this week is gearing up for even more traffic as the state of New Jersey is hosting its first Super Bowl on Sunday.
