Women and young girls everywhere feel the pressures of being what the world portrays as beautiful. In a world obsessed with photo-shop and airbrushed perfection, the “beautiful” that girls look up to is undoubtedly fake. In an effort to portray real beauty, Aerie and American Eagle brand have abandoned the perfected practice and are going all natural with their new models.
Aerie’s new spring collection has already debuted their new ads featuring models who have not been re-touched or improved in any way. These girls proudly show their natural beauty with curves, tattoos, unperfected tan lines, and all. According to ABC/Yahoo news, Aerie’s style and fit expert Jenny Altman revealed her motif behind the brilliant new ads.
"We left everything. We left beauty marks, we left tattoos, what you see is really what you get with our campaign.” Altman continued saying, “We're hoping to break the mold … we hope by embracing this that real girls everywhere will start to embrace their own beauty."
Buzzfeed featured a photo and message from the “ae” brand saying, “Dear Aerie girls, We think it’s time for a change. We think it’s time to GET REAL and THINK REAL. WE want every girl to feel good about who they are and what they look like, inside and out. This means NO MORE RETOUCHING OUR GIRLS AND NO MORE SUPERMODELS. Why? Because there is no reason to retouch beauty. We think THE REAL YOU IS SEXY. Xoxo Aerie.”
As young women and girls are rejoicing over this new movement, we can’t help but applaud Aerie with their beautiful endeavor and hope that all girls will see the beauty in themselves. The real women and young girls that are pictured in Aerie’s new spring collection are already plastered on the popular lingerie brand website. Aerie REAL, as the new campaign is called, undoubtedly shows the reality in true beauty.
