When the students of Berrendo Middle School in Roswell, NM went to school Tuesday morning, it was like any other normal day. That was until 12 year old, Mason Campbell, shot a young boy and girl in the gymnasium of the school.

Campbell is being charged with three counts of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and will be charged as a juvenile. Campbell concealed the 20-gauge shotgun in a duffle bag.

According to KOB News, the young boy who sustained a shot to the face is Nathaniel Tavarez, a 12 year old student at Berrendo Middle School. Tavarez also has damage to his neck, and has been in critical condition since the attack. Kendal Sanders was the other student who was shot in the arm. She will be released soon.

Students have been let back into the school; however some parents are still worried and frightened by the thought of them returning. “It’s so scary,” 8th grade student, Quinn Fleming’s, mother told Albuquerque Journal , “you’re sending your kids into something you can’t control. … I hope today is easier than I’m anticipating.”

Counselors have been stationed in every classroom at Berrendo Middle School.
