After a guilty verdict was handed down in a retrial, authorities say they stopped Amanda Knox’s ex, Raffaele Sollecito, near the border.
Italian authorities told CNN on Friday that Sollecito was stopped and detained near the border with Austria and Slovenia.
BBC News has reported that the 29-year-old’s passport was confiscated and a travel ban was part of the verdict handed down.
On Thursday, an Florence court found Sollecito and Knox guilty for the 2007 murder of British student Meredith Kercher, who was found brutally murdered in an apartment she shared with Knox.
An Italian court also found the two then-lovers guilty in 2009 and they were sentenced to 25 years in prison, however, in 2011 they were both aquitted on appeal and Knox returned to the U.S.
In 2013, a retrial of the appeal started.
Knox released a statement following the verdict.
"I am frightened and saddened by this unjust verdict. Having been found innocent before, I expected better from the Italian justice system. The evidence and accusatory theory do not justify a verdict of guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. ...There has always been a marked lack of evidence."
