American Apparel is raising eyebrows with their new mannequins, which feature pubic hair seen through the lingerie they’re showcasing in their window displays.

The new mannequins went up at 3am on Thursday at one of their New York City locations, garnering the attention of street walkers on Friday morning.

The Valentine’s Day-themed displays show the mannequins’ pubic hair in an attempt to show "rawness and realness of sexuality,” an associate told Huffington Post.

In a statement, the brand explained their choice to Elle, saying, "American Apparel is a company that celebrates natural beauty, and the Lower East Side Valentine's Day window continues that celebration.”

The statement continued, “We created it to invite passerbys to explore the idea of what is 'sexy' and consider their comfort with the natural female form. This is the same idea behind our advertisements which avoid many of the photoshopped and airbrushed standards of the fashion industry. So far we have received positive feedback from those that have commented and we're looking forward to hearing more points of view."

This is hardly the first time American Apparel CEO Dov Charney has issued pubic hair the brand’s campaigns. In 2011, they showcased a model wearing sheer panties and visible pubic hair and just last year they made headlines for selling a T-shirt of a woman’s privates.
