Anna Gordy Gaye, the wife of Marvin Gaye, died in Los Angeles at 92.
According to Reuters, Maureen O'Connor, executive vice president of publicists Rogers & Cowan said, "She died today at her Los Angeles home. She passed away from natural causes. They discovered her body at 3:00 a.m."
Her brother, Berry Gordy Jr., founded Motown Records in Detroit in 1959. He named one label subsidiary after his sister. It was on a subsidiary that Marvin Gaye recorded his early work. The subsidiary was named Anna.
Gordy Gaye was married to Marvin Gaye from 1964 to 1977. He and Anna Gordy Gaye were married about a decade and co-wrote some songs together. She helped write Flying High (In the Friendly Sky)” and “God is Love.” Both songs are on the popular album, What’s Going On.
Marvin Gaye died at age 44. He was shot by his father, according to the Associated Press. Marvin Gaye was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Gordy Gaye attended the ceremony.
Gordy Gaye is survived by her son, Marvin Gaye III.
