Authorities have the cause of death, but are now working to try and identify a decapitated man found in Wyoming.

According to the Associated Press, officials say the victim died of multiple gunshot wounds before he was decapitated.

Sheriff Scott Steward said the man’s head and one arm was removed and they have not been able to ID him yet.

However, CNN has reported that a unique belt found with the victim could be the clue that helps crack open the murder mystery.

In a statement, the sheriff’s department said that the belt’s construction is similar to that of a "piteado."

The piteado technique is commonly used in Mexico and other parts of Central America to make belts, sandals and other leather goods. The technique uses specific threads to embroider decorative patterns onto the leather.

The man was found Jan. 9, in the northwestern part of the state, near the Montana border. Police are asking anyone with information to contact authorities.
