Barbara Mandrell was one of the musicians inducted into The Musicians Hall of Fame on Wednesday. A total of 12 musicians were inducted during the ceremony in Nashville.
According to the Associated Press, Barbara Mandrell said, "It opened the doors for me, 'cause there weren't a lot of little girls playing steel guitar.”
Barbara Mandrell, who was the first artist to win the CMA Entertainer Of The Year for two consecutive years, said learning how to play the steel guitar and the saxophone helped to launch her career.
The new inductees include Buddy Guy, British rock guitarist Peter Frampton, Randy Bachman, Jimmy Capps, Will Lee, Corki Casey O'Dell, and country guitarist Velma Smith. Posthumous inductions went to Stevie Ray Vaughan, along with his band Double Trouble, and pedal steel guitarist Ben Keith.
According to Billboard, The Musicians Hall of Fame decided to give their first Iconic Riff Award. The award went posthumously to Roy Orbison for his guitar work on "Pretty Woman." Their first Industry Icon Award went to Mike Curb, the founder of Curb Records.
