Billy Joel launched his open-ended residency at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Monday night and on Tuesday, he sat down with CBS This Morning to chat about it.
He said about “un-retiring” to play several shows at the Garden that since he’s located in NYC, it was a given that he would perform there without the hassle of traveling.
“So I go, ‘Wait a minute, that's nice. That's one place I don't have to schlep to. I can commute to it from where I live,’” he told CBS’ Charlie Rose. “And we love the Garden."
He said although he’s 65 now and “most people” retire at that age, "As long as there's a ticket demand and as long as I'm physically capable of doing it,” he will.
Joel has shows booked through July and he shows no signs of stopping. Back in 2006, he set the record for selling out 12 consecutive shows at the Garden.
