In 1992, a group of music legends gathered in New York to pay tribute to their fellow legend, Bob Dylan to mark the release of his first album. Over 20 years later, that concert is finally being re-released on CD. The concert will also be released on DVD and Blu-ray and will air on PBS.
Sony is releasing a deluxe, two-disc DVD and Blu-ray set that will feature rehearsal footage and interviews with many of the performers. Although the album was previously issued on CD, the new remastered edition will include two bonus tracks: Sinead O’Connor’s soundcheck performance of “I Believe In You” and Eric Clapton’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright.”
The sold-out performance took place on Oct. 16, 1992 at Madison Square Garden. The performers included John Mellencamp, Clapton, O’Connor, Tom Petty, Lou Reed, Stevie Wonder, Eddie Vedder, Mike McCready, Tracy Chapman, June Carter Cash and Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Ron Wood, Richie Havens, Neil Young, The Band and George Harrison. Dylan also performed “Girl From The North Country” to end the show.
PBS will air the show in March as part of the Great Performances series.
The DVD, Blu-Ray and CD sets will be released on March 4.
