Bruce Dern will receive the Modern Master Award at this year’s Santa Barbara International Film Festival. The tribute will take place on Feb. 8 at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, SBIFF's Executive Director Roger Durling said in a statement, "We're deeply humbled and grateful to Bruce Dern for accepting this award. He's not only a Modern Master – he's a hero. Year after year, performance after performance, Bruce Dern has enthralled audiences and with Nebraska he has given us a character for the ages in Woody Grant. It’s his time and we’re delighted to honor him."

It’s been a good year for Dern, as he has also received a career achievement award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala. Dern has delivered memorable performances in Django Unchained and Fighting for Freedom, among other films. Dern was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Coming Home in 1978.

Emma Thompson, who was originally slated to receive the award, but could no longer attend the ceremony due to a scheduling conflict, according to Variety.
