Bruce Springsteen played at Asbury Park last night for the 14th Annual Light of Day benefit. The benefit was to support the fight against Parkinson’s Disease. The event took place at the Paramount Theatre.

Solo recording artist Jesse Malin joined Bruce Springsteen for “Do You Remember Rock and Roll Radio,” a Joey Ramone song that captured the spirit of the benefit. Malin told The Hollywood Reporter, “Joey Ramone was a fighter, and he fought to stay alive. He believed in the power of music.” Malin previously covered “Hungry Heart” for the album, Light of Day.

The Light of Day benefits began in 1998 as a 40th birthday party for Bob Benjamin, who had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Benjamin worked for Billboard until 1991, when he left to work in independent retail promotion.

In addition to the Joey Ramone cover song, Bruce Springsteen played tunes like “Frankie Fell in Love” at the event last night. “Frankie Fell in Love” is off Springsteen’s newly released album, High Hopes. According to Variety, High Hopes is Springsteen’s 18th collection and was released on Jan. 14th.
