Catching Fire just passed Iron Man 3 for the top grossing film of 2013. Lionsgate announced that with the film has made around $409.4 million since the film has been released almost 49 days ago.
Catching Fire is the sequel to the Hunger Games which stars Oscar winner, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth.
That is $400,000 ahead of Iron Man 3, which was released by Marvel and stared Robert Downey Jr. and Ben Kingsley.
The LA Times reported that Iron Man 3 took in $409 million at the Box Office in 2013 its run.
Lionsgate, also announced that the Hunger Games sequel set records for the biggest opening for a film weekend during the month of November. Catching Fire made $158.1 million during that weekend and the sequel just passed $408 million for the Hunger Games film this Tuesday.
Jon Feltheimer, CEO of Lionsgate, spoke about the success of the Hunger Games. “The Hunger Games franchise continues to evolve into a truly global phenomenon," said Feltheimer.
Variety added that Mockingjay, the conclusion to the Hunger Games trilogy will be released in two parts on Nov. 21, 2014 and Nov. 20, 2015, respectively.
