Dennis Rodman has apologized for his on-air outburst that took place on CNN on Tuesday, while speaking about imprisoned American, Kenneth Bae, in North Korea.
Rodman appeared on CNN's New Day along with other former NBA players and lost his cool with Chris Cuomo when talking about Bae, seemingly siding with his friend and the country’s leader Kim Jong Un for sentencing him to 15 years of hard labor.
Rodman now admits that he had been drinking, and he’s offering an apology to Bae’s family. The Bae family has spoken out about Rodman since his Tuesday appearance, in which he also sang “Happy Birthday” to Kim Jong Un, saying they’re “outraged” by his insinuation that he did something “sinister” to deserve punishment.
"I want to first apologize to Kenneth Bae's family," Rodman said in a statement Thursday, CNN reports. "I want to apologize to my teammates and my management team. I also want to apologize to Chris Cuomo."
"I embarrassed a lot of people. I'm very sorry. At this point I should know better than to make political statements. I'm truly sorry,” adding, "I had been drinking. It's not an excuse but by the time the interview happened I was upset. I was overwhelmed."
