Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox, better known to the world as the Eurythmics, are planning a reunion. However, instead of coming together to play “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” and their other hits, they will be paying tribute to The Beatles.
The Recording Academy said today that the ‘80s pop duo will perform during The Night That Changed America: A Grammy Salute To The Beatles, a special marking the 50th anniversary of the Fab Four’s first performance on American television.
“When it came around to booking this show, what I felt was important was to try and find those artists who not only would be able to interpret Beatles songs, but would also have an ... understanding of what they meant,” Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich told The Associated Press.
Ehrlich, who also produces the Grammy ceremony itself, declined to tell CBS which songs Stewart and Lennox plan to perform. They will be joined by Maroon 5, Alicia Keys, John Mayer, John Legend and Keith Urban. Mayer and Urban will sing “Don’t Let Me Down,” while Keys and Legend plan to sing “Let It Be.”
The special was announced in November and will be taped on Jan. 27 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. CBS will air the special on Feb. 9, exactly 50 years after the Beatles performed on The Ed Sullivan Show before 73 million Americans.
The Beatles will also receive the Grammy Lifetime Achievement award on Jan. 25. The Grammys will be handed out on Jan. 26.
Ehrlich refused to say if either Paul McCartney or Ringo Starr, the two surviving Beatles, would attend the show.
