Five men have been arrested in the robbery and shooting death of a Venezuelan model and a British businessman.

According to the Daily Mail, Miss Venezuela 2004, Monica Spear Mootz, and her ex-husband Thomas Berry, were shot and killed by thieves after their car broke down on the Puerto-Cabello to Valencia highway on Monday.

The two were murdered in front of their five-year-old daughter, who was shot in the leg but survived, CNN notes.

After they broke down, the pair called for a tow truck and while they waited were approached by men with guns. The gunmen opened fire, shooting at the couple through the windows.

“It was presumed that the motive was robbery,” said Venezuelan Justice Minister Miguel Rodriguez Torres. “We are still investigating. There are five people detained who are being investigated.”

Mootz won the national title in 2004 and represented Venezuela at the Miss Universe 2005 pageant. She also starred in Spanish-language soap opreas Mi Prima
Ciela and La Mujer Perfecta.

Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro, called the killings a massacre.
