NBC’s thriller Hannibal will be coming back for a second season and the show is welcoming Michael Pitt to their cast. He has signed on to play the role of Mason Verger, a patient of Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
Pitt last appeared on TV as Jimmy Darmody, on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, who was killed off the show at the end of the second season. This is his first TV debut since then.
The character of Mason Verger will be introduced at the end of the second season. According to Ew.com, Verger will begin “a dangerous cat-and-mouse game” with Dr. Hannibal Lecter.
The role of Mason Verger was introduced in the film Hannibal in 2001, played by Gary Oldman. The film is based on a novel of the same name, by Thomas Harris, reports http://www.uproxx.com/tv/2014/01/michael-pitt-boardwalk-empire-will-make-return-television-hannibal/>Uproxx.com.
NBC’s Hannibal acts as a foreshadow of the events in the movie, so the portrayal of Verger might be very different from anything we’ve seen thus far.
Season 2 of Hannibal will premiere on NBC, on Feb. 28 at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
