A former West Chester University student has been arrested and charged after officials say they found 40 pounds of drug-laced candy in his apartment.
According to 6ABC Action News, Robert Callis-Keiser of Johnstown, Pa., faces numerous drug charges including possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute.
The Philadelphia Inquirer has reported that Keiser was suspended from the university after police found the drugs several months ago.
Although the drugs were found back in October, the 25-year-old wasn’t arrested until Thursday, because complicated lab test had to be conducted on the candy, District Attorney Chief of Staff Charles Gaza explained.
“This type of drug-laced candy is fairly common on the West Coast of the United States, but it is a new trend in this area,” Gaza said. “Mixing drugs with candy presents a unique danger to children. West Chester University Police have been diligently working on this case since the initial seizure of the candy and we are not in a place to proceed with [charges].”
The candy was laced with Tetrahydrocannabinol, which is found in marijuana. Keiser was released on 25,000 bail.
