The trailer for the fourth season of Game of Thrones debuted on HBO last night, as the network premiered True Detective and the new season of Girls. The extended look at the new season of the show, which is based on George R.R. Martin’s novels, shows that we need to get prepared for an explosive year in Westeros.
At the beginning, we see Joffrey under the impression that the war has been won, but his older brother, Jaime Lannister reminds him that it’s far from won. That’s because Daenerys is about to arrive and she’s not going to bow down to anyone. “They can live in my new world, or they can die in their old one,” she says.
MTV News notes that the trailer does introduce a new character, Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne. He is played by Chilean actor Pedro Pascal and the character is also known as the ‘Red Viper,’ thanks to his dangerous skills. He arrives in King’s Landing and clearly has some business with the Lannisters.
You can check out the full trailer below. Game of Thrones, based on Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire novels, returns on HBO on April 6 at 9 p.m. HBO announced last week that Veep’s new season will start that night, as well as Mike Judge’s Silicon Valley.
