New Jersey Governor Chris Christie was sworn into a second term in Trenton this Tuesday.
The 55th governor of New Jersey changed his schedule of events due to winter snow and severe storm warnings. According to Reuters, the snowstorm cancelled a celebratory inauguration party that was supposed to be held on Ellis Island.
Governor Christie began his day at a service at Newark's New Hope Baptist Church before the swearing-in and address. The second term governor offered words of support for the citizens of New Jersey. According to the Associated Press, Governor Christie told reporters, "We have to be willing to play outside the red and blue boxes. We have to be willing to reach out to others who look or speak differently than us."
Chris Christie was born in Newark. He was elected the Governor of New Jersey in 2009, winning over Democratic Governor Jon Corzine. Christie assumed office in January of 2010. He has faced some difficult issues during his first term including the handling of emergency procedures after Hurricane Sandy.
Governor Christie won re-election this November, defeating state Sen. Barbara Buono, a Democrat.
