Federal officials are questioning whether Governor Chris Christie inappropriately used funds allocated for federal relief efforts. The main criticism arises from a choice the Governor made to shoot a commercial that looks like tourism ad.
According to the Daily News, the ad featured Christie’s family discussing Hurricane Sandy. In the promotional ad, the Governor, his wife, Mary Pat, and his children say that the summer destination is back in business.
Some officials feel that the 4.7 million allotted for recovery efforts should not have been used for this purpose. Representative Frank Pallone called for an investigation and contacted the Department of Housing Urban Development inspector to review how the relief money has been spent. Pallone told CNN, "This was money that could have directly been used for Sandy recovery. And, as you know, many of my constituents still haven't gotten the money that is owed them to rebuild their homes or raise their homes or to help."
If investigators find enough supporting evidence to prove that there was a wrongdoing, it could get in the way of Christie’s ability to run for office in the future. Governor Christie is scheduled to give his State of the State address on Tuesday.
